Skaife claims Barbagallo pole

Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife has continued where he left off in New Zealand by taking pole position for this weekend's Perth V8 400 at Barbagallo Raceway

Skaife was second fastest in qualifying before setting the fastest lap in the top ten shootout to edge out Toll HSV Dealer Team's Garth Tander, who swapped positions with Skaife.

Holden dominate the front of the grid, with Skaife's teammate Todd Kelly and Tander's teammate (and Todd's brother) Rick Kelly filling the second row, the grouping of Holden Racing Team and Toll HSV Dealer Team seeming to be paying off.

The first Ford is Triple Eight's Craig Lowndes in fifth place, just ahead of Jack Daniel's Racing's Steven Richards. A pair of Ford Performance Racing Falcons in the form of Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom continue the team's resurgence in eighth and ninth.

However, after showing promise in practice, series champion Stone Brothers Racing's Russell Ingall did not fare so well in qualifying, and will start from seventeenth, three places behind rookie teammate James Courtney.

Other fancied runners not to do so well in qualifying are Tasman Motorsport's Jason Richards in 20th and round one victor Jamie Whincup in 21st.
