Maiden win for Canto in race 2
Repco Valvoline driver Dean Canto has taken a controversial maiden race win in the reverse grid race two in the Perth V8 400 at Barbagallo Raceway
After starting from pole position, Paul Radisich ran up front for the whole race and took the lead back with ten laps remaining. But a spluttering engine coming out of the final corner on the final lap saw Dean Canto left with nowhere to go, sending Radisich spinning as Canto went through to take the win. Radisich recovered to finish sixth.
Second place was a remarkable effort for Steven Richards, having started the race from second-last. A decision to run long on the first set of tyres clearly paid off, as other drivers to start from the rear struggled to make their way to the front.
Greg Murphy finally took a good finish after a disastrous Pukekohe, while Jamie Whincup took a 'disappointing' fourth, having taken the lead at two-thirds distance, only to slide off with ten laps remaining. James Courtney had another solid result to finish fifth.
After winning race one, Mark Skaife struggled in race two, including an off-track excursion following contact with another car, to finish eighteenth. Teammate Todd Kelly was looking to be a strong contender for the win again before another gearbox selection problem struck his car.
Craig Lowndes fared slightly better than Skaife to record a fourteenth place finish, while the Toll HSV Dealer team cars fared well to finish tenth and eleventh for Garth Tander and Rick Kelly respectively.
