Perkins Jr to make debut

Jack Perkins, son of six-time Bathurst winner and Jack Daniels Racing team boss Larry Perkins, will make his V8 Supercar main series debut at this weekend's non-championship races at the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park

Perkins will race the car he drove in the V8 Supercar Development Series races at last weekend's Clipsal 500 event in Adelaide. It will feature his usual livery but will sport the number 51, normally run by Greg Murphy for Super Cheap Auto Racing.

Murphy's car was too severely damaged following his race two crash at the Clipsal 500 to be repaired for this weekend's racing, and so Perkins's car will be using the franchise and number normally used by Murphy.

Perkins's car will be serviced by Super Cheap throughout the weekend, the two teams already having a relationship as Larry Perkins's team supplies Super Cheap with engines.

"I was having visions of a relaxing weekend but got the call up today," said Jack Perkins, who scored a top ten result in the second race in Adelaide. "I'm under no illusions that I'll be running anywhere but near the back of the field. The goal is to circulate and get some more experience.

"Adelaide last weekend was only the second-ever time I had driven a V8 Supercar and our times in the Development Series would have qualified us in the Clipsal 500 field, so I think we'll be OK as far as making the field is concerned.
