Lowndes holds off Bright in race 3
Triple Eight's Craig Lowndes won the third V8 Supercar race of the weeekend at Winton Motor Raceway
Lowndes held off race one winner Jason Bright in the closing laps to take a narrow victory, the duo running up front all race long. The duo were also the top two overall for the round.
Third in the final race was Mark Skaife, nearly twenty seconds behind Lowndes. However it was fourth place finisher Rick Kelly who took third overall for the round for consistently strong finishes in each race.
Second race winner Jason Richards made into the top ten in ninth, while Jamie Whincup, also recorded another good finish just behind Richards in tenth.
The final race was much calmer than the second one, with close, tough but clean racing the order of the day. The only major incident happened on lap one, when Russell Ingall and Steve Owen made side-by-side contact exiting turn three, ending with Ingall buried in the sand.
Although Ingall rejoined the race and finished a lap down in 25th place, his struggles throughout the weekend means he has dropped to fifth in the points, 80 points off the pace. The new points leader is Garth Tander, thirteen points ahead of teammate Rick Kelly who is seventeen ahead of Winton round winner Lowndes.
