Dumbrell claims narrow race one pole

Driving for HRT this weekend, Dumbrell went to the top of the times early in the session and held on to the spot, Jack Daniel's Racing's Todd Kelly missing out by just over a hundredth of a second as he set the second-fastest time.

Will Davison made it two HRT cars in the top three in third, while the Jim Beam Racing cars of Steven Johnson and Warren Luff complete the top five.

Sixth was Ford Performance Racing's Steven Richards, while eighth was a little disappointing for Team Vodafone's Craig Lowndes.

14th was a good result for series returnee Mark Skaife, just behind Shane van Gisbergen and Lee Holdsworth, and two places ahead of long-time rival Russell Ingall.

Ben Collins made a steady start on his V8 Supercar debut, qualifying 22nd fastest in the second Jack Daniel's car.
