Triple Eight/Red Bull reveal Holden hatchback for 2018 Supercars
The new Holden ZB Commodore that will be used in Australian Supercars this season was officially unveiled alongside the Triple Eight-run Red Bull team's 2018 livery unveil
Holden's ZB is the first hatchback model to be run under its flagship Commodore name, and will be adopted by all Holden squads this season.
The racecar, which has been developed by Triple Eight, broke cover during testing last September and has now been launched in its final form at an event on Sydney Harbour on Friday.
It is based on an overseas model for the first time thanks to the shutting down of Holden's production in Australia.
The ZB is set to be powered by the traditional V8 engine this season, before a shift to the Triple Eight and GM developed twin turbo V6 next year.
That new engine, however, is set to make a number of wildcards starts later this year, including at the Bathurst 1000.
The Red Bull Holden team has incorporated significantly more white into the livery for the brand new ZB Commodore.
Holden and Red Bull continue to share the primary sponsorship real space on the side of the car.
Whincup gets new deal
Jamie Whincup has extended his contract with Triple Eight until at least the end of the 2019 Supercars season.
The now-seven-time Supercars champion was entering the last of a three-year deal, and his single-year extension means his tenure at Triple Eight will span 14 seasons.
"I've been with Triple Eight for a long time now and we've achieved a lot together, but at the same time still feel we have so much more to prove," said Whincup.
"I'm rapt to be staying within the family for at least the next couple of seasons and massively looking forward to the challenges that the new Commodore and then the V6 engine next year will present."
Whincup and Triple Eight have enjoyed a record-breaking run of success together, winning six titles between 2008 and 2014, before adding a seventh last year.
