Turkington takes win and points lead
Colin Turkington grabbed the lead of the British Touring Car Championship with a dominant win in the second race at Oulton Park
Starting from pole position, the WSR BMW driver made a good enough getaway to lead into the first corner, and led the race all the way to the chequered flag.
Fabrizio Giovanardi, who made a lightning start from the second row in his Vauxhall, pressured the orange machine during the early stages, but as the race wore on, he was unable to challenge for victory and slipped to 7.293 seconds behind by the finish.
Jason Plato became embroiled in an entertaining battle with his old adversary Matt Neal throughout the second half of the race.
Time after time, Vauxhall driver Neal adjusted his line into the Island hairpin in an attempt to cut back and pass the RML Chevrolet into Hislop's chicane. Plato was resolute in his defence of the position though, and held on to it, despite a few taps from his rival.
Neal was lucky to hang on to fourth after a final attempt to wrest the podium spot at the last corner of the race. His loss of momentum allowed Motorbase BMW driver Jonathan Adam to close onto his tail and finish only 0.022s behind. Erstwhile leader Neal now trails Turkington by eight points in the championship.
Andrew Jordan was another to drive a defensive race, the Vauxhall man holding off James Thompson's Team Dynamics Honda and Adam Jones's Clyde Valley SEAT to the flag for sixth.
Stephen Jelley (WSR BMW) ran fourth early on, but dropped back to the tail of the field after being pushed off by Adam, while RML's Mat Jackson had a similar time loss after making contact with Martyn Bell at the first corner.
Jackson battled back into the top 10, only to retire with a gearbox problem. That promoted Paul O'Neill's Tech-Speed Honda to ninth and Alan Morrison to 10th, the Arena Ford driver taking his first BTCC point since 2003.
