F1 needs more winning teams to be more popular - Perez

Sergio Perez believes Formula 1 needs more teams winning races if it wants to avoid turning fans away

Formula 1 will introduce standing restarts and sparking titanium skidplanks next season, as part of a plan to improve the spectacle of the sport in the face of declining audiences.

The one change F1 needs to make

Formula 1 had seven different winners in the first seven races of the 2012 season, and Perez reckons that is what the sport should be trying to repeat.

Asked what else he would like to see changed in order to improve Formula 1, Perez said: "I'd like to see more teams winning. This is something we need.

"If you look back to the start of 2012, when we had eight or nine different winners in the first nine races, that was a really amazing year.

"That year Williams won a race, I was at Sauber and we came so close to winning a race; we really need to bring this sport a bit more together and give more opportunity to more teams to win.

"I think the fans would love to see Ferrari winning, McLaren, Force India, Williams - different teams, and also [know] that they all have the opportunity to win on a given weekend.

"Here [at Silverstone], we know Mercedes is going to win on Sunday. That makes the sport a bit boring in my opinion."
