Oulton Park BTCC: Colin Turkington doubles up in race two

The race-one winner held off WSR BMW team-mate Rob Collard at the start, then blitzed the first three laps to open up a 2.1-second lead.

Collard was also free in second as a fast-starting Rob Austin (Audi A4) made it into third and proceeded to held up most of the field in the early laps.

Although Austin's pace improved as his tyres came in, Collard was still over three seconds ahead when a clash between Dave Newsham (AmD Ford Focus) and Jack Goff's BMR Vauxhall Insignia sent Newsham into the barriers and brought out the safety car.

Austin briefly overtook Collard as the safety car came out, but gave the place back before the restart.

When racing got underway again, the WSR BMWs again pulled away, with Turkington easing to a 1.7s victory and a clear championship lead.

"It's a bit unreal," said WSR boss Dick Bennetts of the squad's second one-two of the day, even though the third car of Nick Foster retired with a technical problem.

Austin drove a fine defensive race to hold off Jason Plato's Triple Eight MG and the Honda Civic Tourer of Gordon Shedden and complete the podium.

Having followed Sam Tordoff's MG throughout the race, Mat Jackson (Motorbase Ford Focus) managed to snatch sixth at the final corner with a clean move.

Tom Ingram's Speedworks Avensis (running on the soft Dunlop) tried to follow the Ford through, but contact was made, delaying Tordoff further.

Ingram crossed the line seventh, with Aron Smith (BMR VW Passat) also making it past the second MG before the line.

Alain Menu completed the top 10 after an eventful race. The BMR Passat driver pushed Fabrizio Giovanardi's Motorbase Ford off at the second chicane while fighting over 10th, then engaged in a physical battle with reigning champion Andrew Jordan.

The Eurotech Honda driver eventually took 11th, one spot ahead of Matt Neal, who was given a one-second penalty after race one for hitting Menu at Lodge.

Smith will start the reversed-grid race from pole.
