Sorenson ends fastest at Richmond

Ganassi driver Reed Sorenson ended fastest overall in the two-day test at Richmond International Raceway, where 50 Nextel Cup teams gathered to continue with the development of the Car of Tomorrow

Sorenson set a fastest lap of 21.913 seconds at an average speed of 123.215 mph driving his No. 41 Dodge Avenger during Wednesday's morning session. Marking a Dodge domination day in second overall, but quickest in the final afternoon session, was Penske's Kurt Busch.

Craftsman truck series regular Johnny Benson continued to impress while testing a Toyota Camry for Bill Davis Racing, ending the test with the third fastest lap of 21.927 seconds, only a thousandth of a second slower than Busch.

Jeff Green emerged as the fastest Chevrolet Impala SS with the fourth fastest time, also setting his best lap during Wednesday's morning session.

Jeff Burton rounded up the top five, followed by Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin, all off them lapping within a tenth of a second of Sorenson's time - also during the morning session.

Matt Kenseth was the fastest of the Ford drivers with a lap of 22.030 seconds, finishing tenth overall.

Juan Pablo Montoya was second fastest in the last session behind Kurt Busch, improving notably during the two days. His best lap, of 22.060 seconds, ranked as 16th fastest overall.

The Colombian had a slight brush with the wall on Tuesday while Scott Riggs had the only major incident during the two days. He was taken for medical checks but was OK, although he didn't run in the final two sessions.

Nextel Cup teams will now focus on the next round at Texas Motor Speedway on April 15, where they will again run the current specification of the car. One week after that, they will race the Car of Tomorrow at Phoenix.
