Sadler on Lowe's Pole

Elliott Sadler secured his third front-row start in as many weeks after taking pole positions for this weekend's UAW-GM Quality 500  at Lowe's Motorspeedway

Sadler's lap smashed Ryan Newman's track record set in May, recording an average speed of 193.216 mph.

"My whole body is shaking right now," Sadler said. "This is such a fast track. It was very nerve-racking, but very fun."

Newman led the Chase for the Championship drivers, and will start second along side Sadler.

Jimmie Johnson, who has won the last three championship races at the track, qualified third but will have to start from the back because his engine failed during practice and needed to be changed.

"It's not a good thing to come from the back, there's going to be a lot of risks that I'm going to have to take to get to the front," Johnson said. "I'm going to have to be on my toes at the start of the race."

Championship leader Tony Stewart qualified fourth, and was one of six Chase drivers in the top ten. Mark Martin, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards qualified sixth, seventh and eight respectively.
