Martin rules out full season

Mark Martin has said that he will not switch to a full-time campaign with Ginn Racing this year despite his strong start to the season

The 48-year-old is leading the Nextel Cup standings after two races with his new team, but the former Roush driver denied that he would consider a full-time campaign if the success continued.

"No," he said when asked if he would stay in the car all year. "I am proud to be here and I am loving this, it is just awesome."

Martin narrowly missed out on winning the season-opening Daytona 500 one week ago, and he moved into the lead of the standings with a fifth-place finish at California Speedway on Sunday.

"I'm encouraged," he said. "We have the potential here to get up there and win a race, we've shown that in the last two weeks."

However, Martin is focused on helping the whole team improve during the year, rather than worrying about his own campaign.

"We'll keep working to try to make all these Ginn Racing teams better," he said. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for this team, and I'm proud that we were able to come home with a top-five finish."

Martin is expected to compete in a total of 22 Nextel Cup events this year, while Regan Smith will drive the No. 01 car in the remaining rounds.
