Johnson targets road course success
Jimmie Johnson has set himself a personal goal to fight for victories on road courses next year
The newly-crowned Nextel Cup champion tasted success at the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 this year, but he feels he still has more to achieve despite holding NASCAR's most prestigious trophies.
"A personal goal I have is to get better on the road courses," Johnson said. "I can run top five, top 10, but I want to be up there racing for victories.
"As I look into next season, that's something I really want to focus on."
Johnson admitted that he felt fortunate to have been able to achieve so much in NASCAR's top division in just five years, but added that he was still motivated to do it all again.
"I have been so blessed to win all of these events, and now the championship," he said. "But now the second time is something I'm looking at."
However, the Hendrick Motorsports driver added that he isn't concentrating too much on 2007 just yet.
"I'm enjoying this ride," he said. "That's something I don't typically do, just sit back and relax, so I'm going to let this soak in.
"I'm not sure when this chance to be on top of the world will ever come back again, so I'm going to enjoy it."
