Johnson prepared to take risks
Jimmie Johnson believes that he cannot afford to be cautious if he wants to win a second consecutive NASCAR Nextel Cup
The reigning champion won at Texas on Sunday after a tough battle with Matt Kenseth, giving him a 30-point lead over Jeff Gordon with two races remaining.
However, Johnson feels that he has no choice but to keep fighting for every position if he wants to beat Gordon to the title.
"At times I thought about the points, but I knew Jeff was getting better as the night went on," Johnson said after Sunday's race.
"I knew I needed every point I could get and I have to go for it. Every spot counts, and you've got to go for it."
Despite his strong position with just two races remaining, Johnson says that he is not in a comfortable position just yet.
"It's only 30 points, and if you look at the last two weeks, I've been able to make up roughly 60 points," he added.
"Jeff hasn't had bad races the last two events, so it's not like he's had bad nights. I can finish tenth and he can win and I'm back in second."
