Harvick doubles up in Phoenix
Kevin Harvick took his second win in two days as he won the Subway Fresh 500 at Phoenix International Raceway
Harvick took the win in Friday night's Busch series race at Phoenix, and a late run to the front tonight saw him do it again.
Tony Stewart completed a remarkable run from the back to finish second, with Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer completing the top five runners. Kenseth's third place moved him into the points lead, nine ahead of seventh place finisher Jimmie Johnson.
It was a question of fuel mileage for everyone, and most of the field managed to make the gamble pay off.
However, those that didn't included Greg Biffle, who fell from second to sixteenth in the final two laps, and his teammate Mark Martin, who dropped from third to eleventh.
At the start of the race it was all Greg Biffle, before Mark Martin took the lead just after a lap 100 caution and red flag for a multi-car crash, Kyle Busch also damaging his car in a separate incident and later receiving a five lap penalty for colliding with a car under the red flag.
The race then stayed green for almost 100 laps, during which time Tony Stewart continued his march through the field, having started at the rear of the field for not starting on the tyres he qualified on.
Martin was first out of the pits at the caution but had to return to the pits to tighten a loose wheel, sending him to the rear of the lead lap runners.
Clint Bowyer led a few laps before Stewart's run to the front saw him take the lead. But another caution soon after saw Biffle move into the lead.
As the laps wound down Biffle looked comfortable, but in the closing laps Stewart began to catch him. Then Harvick caught Stewart, and then almost immediately ran down Biffle, taking the lead with 10 laps remaining which he held to the chequered flag.
