Edwards wins Nashville Busch race
Busch Series points leader Carl Edwards took his second consecutive victory of the season on Saturday in the Pepsi 300 at the 1.33-mile Nashville Superspeedway
Edwards dominated the later part of the race, leading the final 25 laps after overtaking Jason Leffler on the inside of Turn 1.
He ran all the distance within the top ten and led a race-high 74 laps to take an extra ten points for the championship.
"I really had a lot of fun out here. A great race, a great track and an honour to finish in front of David Reutimann, he was running really well today," said the Roush Fenway driver, who also took his second consecutive victory at Nashville.
"I was a little nervous about coming out third from the last pitstops. We had a loose right front wheel for the last two runs. It kept coming loose but it was good timing to get it right in the end."
As Edwards said, Reutimann was the man he was keeping in sight in the last part of the race. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver took the lead of the race early on from pole-sitter David Stremme and opened up a huge gap in front.
However he was hampered by a penalty due to a pit-road violation which dropped him back, although he was able to recover to finish second, achieving his best result of the season to date.
"Those types of things happen every once in a while, but [the crew] picked me up two spots on the last stop," Reutimann said.
"No matter what happened, I think we had a second place car today and that's where we ended up."
Reutimann wasn't the only Toyota in contention for victory. Dave Blaney finished third despite and early incident while Jason Leffler finished fourth after leading the race four different times. It has been the best showing by the Camrys so far in their debut season in the Busch series.
Coincidence or not, NASCAR officials mandated all Toyota teams in the Busch series and Craftsman Truck series to change the intake manifold on their cars from this weekend onwards, because the one in use previously was supposed to be giving them a horsepower advantage.
Regan Smith rounded up the top five in his Ginn Racing Chevrolet, getting his best ever result in NASCAR.
Mike Bliss finished tenth as the best Dodge driver, ahead of David Stremme who was driving the No. 41 entry for Chip Ganassi this weekend.
Kevin Hamlin, who replaced Juan Pablo Montoya in the No. 42 Dodge for the first time this season, finished 18th, behind Australian Marcos Ambrose, who had started from the front row.
Edwards now holds a massive 321 points lead in the driver standings over Toyota's Dave Blaney and 392 over reigning champion Kevin Harvick, who did not take part of the race this weekend.
The Busch Series will race again next weekend at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway.
