Edwards wins again at Nashville

Carl Edwards can now be nicknamed as the 'Concrete King', after taking his fourth victory of the season, yet his fourth also on a concrete-surfaced track, by winning the NASCAR Busch series Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway

The uncontested series leader was in the hunt for the win all day but took the lead from Clint Bowyer with 32 laps to go and never gave gave it back, instead opening a big enough gap to secure his second victory of the year at the 1.3-mile oval.

"The biggest thing on this concrete tracks is the car is so important and I've got the best crew in business," said Edwards after celebrating with his traditional back-flip from his car in front of the start-finish line, receiving a unique guitar as the trophy in victory lane.

"[The car] was just extremely tight at the beginning and I though we were in big trouble but my team, they're real thoughtful about how to set this cars up. No matter what I tell them, but loose or tight they can fix it. They give me that room; that's awesome."

Edwards didn't take part in the two practice sessions held during Friday, with Matt McCall filling in for him.

The Roush Fenway driver was on Nextel Cup duty at Pocono during the morning, and landed in the infield in a helicopter with teammate David Ragan to make it just in time to qualify seventh.

But while Edwards had no problems getting to grips with the car at such short notice, Clint Bowyer felt his lack of time in the car before the race probably prevented him from taking victory despite leading more than half the laps of the evening at Nashville.

"Without practicing you've basically got what you've got," a disappointed Bowyer said. "Brandon Miller did a really good job practicing the car but it just wasn't my driving style, you know, I needed it to be freer in so I could put more speed in the corner and we just couldn't get that. You could try to crush it for a few laps but in the long run it's what put us back."

Jason Leffler finished third in his No. 38 Braun Racing Toyota overtaking Bowyer's RCR teammate Scott Wimmer in the last lap of the race. Wimmer led 41 laps and had another good weekend filling in this time for Jeff Burton, having finished third a week ago at Dover.

"It was fun racing Wimmer at the end. and we caught him on the last lap and were able to pass him," Leffler said. "We turned it around here; we've had an up-and-down season, mainly down. If we keep doing this, we'll be happy."

Regan Smith rounded up the top five with yet another good showing for Ginn Racing, while officially the best rookie finisher was David Ragan, who crossed the line seventh in his Roush Fenway Chevrolet.

Pole-sitter Steve Wallace was not able to profit from his good qualifying and despite leading the first six laps, most of them under caution, he finished 12th.

Kevin Hamlin finished 23rd filling in for Juan Pablo Montoya, who sat out a Busch race for the second time this year, as he plans to race only in the companion events of the Nextel Cup races - Mexico being the only exception.

After Saturday's race, Carl Edwards increases his lead in the standings to a massive 662 points as he closest pursuer, reigning Busch Series champion Kevin Harvick, stayed at Pocono.
