Bowyer wins Busch at Phoenix

Clint Bowyer took a dominant win in the Basha's Supermarkets 200, round nine of the NASCAR Busch Series at Phoenix International Raceway

Bowyer led 120 out of the 200 laps, battling with Matt Kenseth for most of the second half of the race. The Richard Childress driver took the lead early on from polesitter Kyle Busch and proved to be the man to beat from then on.

"It's just an unbelievable night, an unbelievable run for these guys here," said Bowyer after claiming his first victory at Phoenix and his fourth in the Busch Series.

"They unloaded off (the truck) every bit as fast as the last lap of that race.

"You can appreciate racing guys like Matt Kenseth, they race you hard but they race you clean and it makes it a lot of fun out there.

"It was nerve-wracking with all those cautions coming out as I was struggling on the restarts. It took us three, four, or five laps to get going."

The race was officially ended under caution due to a crash between J.J Yeley and Jon Wood on the last lap. Yeley was also involved in a pit-road incident when he hit a mechanic from the No. 22 car of Mike Bliss. The mechanic was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition.

Kenseth kept his momentum running by finishing second after his Texas victory last week. He looked the only contender capable of keeping Bowyer at bay but lost contact with him in the last few laps of the race.

"I got real loose out of turn four with three to go," Kenseth said.

"I was tight a little bit and he just didn't give me enough room the next time we went through there and I just got too loose to hang out. It was a heck of a race."

Jeff Burton finished a solid third with Denny Hamlin filling his mirrors. The Joe Gibbs driver finally won a race-long battle with points leader Carl Edwards who completed yet another strong performance by taking fifth.

Regan Smith was the best rookie in eighth ahead of Kevin Harvick and Dave Blaney who completed the top ten. The Bill Davis Racing driver was the best placed Toyota and kept second in the standings.

Juan Pablo Montoya led a race for the second week in a row but again his glory was short-lived. The Ganassi driver changed two tyres when everybody pitted under caution with 62 laps to go, jumping 12 spots in one go to take the lead.

However, he was overtaken by Bowyer and Kenseth on the restart and two laps later he was hit from behind by Steve Wallace. He managed to keep his car pointing forwards, but had to avoid the spinning Dodge of Wallace, falling down to tenth.

"I was completely clear and Steven just tried to out-brake himself and wrecked everybody like he always does," Montoya said.

"And he just keeps doing it. Every time he's around somebody there's always a wreck."

The Ganassi driver eventually pitted for repairs, tyres and set-up changes as the caution came out, dropping down the order. He avoided the wreck in front of him on the last lap, making up a few places to finish 21st.

"[The car] was really bad to start with," he added. "But after like 20 laps it got going and it was fast. It was as fast as the leaders but the first few laps it was horrible."
