Stewart dominates Fontana Nationwide

For the second week in a row, Tony Stewart took a dominant victory in the Nationwide Series, leading almost from flag to flag to score his fourth series win in the Stater Bros 300 at Fontana

Stewart, who started second alongside Jeff Burton based on the 2007 final owner points standing, grabbed the lead when the green flag waved for the first time and then pulled away from his rivals only giving up the lead a few times during pitstops.

'Smoke' stayed up front for 136 of the 150 laps of the race at the wheel of his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and never looked to be under threat from anyone. Rounding up yet another strong performance from the Camrys was Kyle Busch, who drove for Braun Racing this weekend, finishing second.

"This car was really good for the little bit of practice we got on Saturday," said Stewart. "They had great pitstops all day, kept us with great track position. We never were any further back than second.

"I'm real happy with it. To lead a hundred and something laps from a hundred and fifty lap race is pretty impressive. You can count the days when you have cars like this."

Only fuel mileage was a worry for Stewart as he was tight on fuel in the final part of the race, but his superior pace allowed him to run quick enough to remain on top, slow enough to make it to the chequered flag.

Today's race had originally been scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon, but was postponed twice due to rain. It had first been moved to Sunday following the Sprint Cup race, but the rain made a second postponement for today inevitable.

The event marked the first time the Nationwide teams ran the new engine package set by NASCAR for non-restrictor place races, which enforces the use of a tapered spacer between the carburetor and the intake manifold, taking around 80 horsepower from the engines but improving their durability.

Kyle Busch, who finished runner-up for the second week in a row in the Nationwide Series, was among the drivers who voiced their dislike of the new engine rules, which according to him made the cars harder to drive due to the reduced power available from the engine when coming out of the corners.

"It was a lot of fun out there but these cars are a little bit harder to drive than we anticipated because there's no motor in them," Busch said. "Our car though was pretty strong and it was a battle of the Toyotas up there at the front. All in all it was a good race for us."

Kevin Harvick finished third in his KHI entry, ahead of the Toyota of David Reutimann and the Roush Fenway Ford of the Sprint Cup series event winner Carl Edwards. The only non-Sprint Cup regular in the top ten was Stephen Leicht, who finished tenth in the No. 21 Richard Childress Chevrolet.

Dario Franchitti had a solid run on his second race of the day finishing 24th, a lap down on the race winner.

Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch remain first and second in the drivers' standing, with the current Nationwide Series champion Carl Edwards trailing them in third.
