Simon Pagenaud blitzed the field to keep Peugeot top in second practice

Simon Pagenaud kept Peugeot on top in AUTOSPORT Six Hours practice at Silverstone with a phenomenal effort that left him more than 1.5s clear of the field

The Frenchman, deputising for the injured Anthony Davidson, traded fastest laps with Audi's Allan McNish in the early stages of practice, but at the half-way mark found more than three seconds as he blazed to a 1m44.945s.

Given that times had been centred in the low 1m47s it seemed that benchmark would remain unbeaten and so it proved.

Tom Kristensen in the #2 Audi came closest when he dipped into the 1m46s 15 minutes from the end, but his best effort was still more than 1.7s shy of Pagenaud.

Second practice mirrored the first session in that Peugeot headed an Audi 2-3, with the #1 R18 this time finishing third fastest, less than four tenths down the road.

The #8 Peugeot 908 meanwhile finished fourth fastest, its 1m47.845s only fractions slower than its pace-setting effort in free practice one.

The #24 Oak Racing Pescarolo-Judd of Jacques Nicolet, Alexandre Premat and Olivier Pla was fifth fastest, more than 1s off the #8 Peugeot.

Having finished fourth fastest in the morning, the #40 Race Performance ORECA-Nissan headed the LMP2 class with a 1m52.720s - around 1s than the morning session.

The #42 Strakka HPD was again in the mix, finishing half a second down in second.

The #41 Graves Motorsport Zytek meanwhile edged out the #46 TDS Racing and #45 Boutsen Energy ORECA-Nissans in the battle for third.

Ferrari were once again fastest in GTE Pro, although this time it was the #66 JMW Motorsport 458 of Rob Bell and James Walker which topped the timesheets.

Frederic Makowiecki and Stephane Ortelli were second fastest in the ##59 Luxury Racing 458, ahead of the #55 BMW M3 and the #77 Felbermayr Porsche.

Porsche and Ferrari were also locked in battle in GTE Am, the #67 IMSA 911 edging out the #57 Krohn Racing 430 for top spot.
