Pagenaud now leads the IndyCar Series points standings.
It is also Team Penske's 18th Indy 500 win and the team's second consecutive 'Month of May' sweep.
Pagenaud is the first polesitter to win the Indy 500 since his Penske team mate Helio Castroneves did it in 2009
Lucky 13 - Pagenaud's win is his 13th career victory in IndyCar.
Rossi says that Pagenaud's Chevrolet horsepower advantage was key to the Penske driver defeating him to the win today.
"I want to drink the milk!" Simon Pagenaud certainly has his priorities right as he begins the post-race festivities.

The Frenchman holds of Rossi in one of the most thrilling finishes in Indy 500 history!
SIMON PAGENAUD WINS THE INDIANPOLIS 500!
Pagenaud leads into the final lap. Rossi is pressuring and Sato is close too
Pagenaud takes the lead into turn three of the penultimate lap.
Pagenaud isn't backing down! He looks to the outside of turn one with two to go.
Rossi to the lead with three to go!
Five to go, it's still Pagenaud out in front. Just.
Seven to go, Pagenaud has it a little easier in turn one this time. The top three are covered by half a second.
Eight to go, Rossi looks around the outside in turn one but Pagenaud has him covered. Sato has now joined in the fight for the lead.
Pagenaud is going defensive, determined to break Rossi's slipstream.
Rossi is still pressuring Pagenaud for the lead. Newgarden is a little further back in third, being challenged by Sato.
Sato and Carpenter have moved apart from one another.
Pagenaud passes Rossi for the lead in turn one once again.
Rossi back to the lead, mirroring Pagenaud's move from a lap before.
Ed Carpenter and Takuma Sato are fighting over fourth and fifth.
Pagenaud passes Rossi for the lead going into turn one. Newgarden is up to third.
We're green with 13 laps to go!
The lapped cars are being brought through the pits as the leap-lap cars get ready for the restart.
Floor repairs for Dixon under caution. We're getting ready to return to green.
Engines are fired, cars are heading back to the track. 20 laps separate us from now and the end of the 2019 Indianapolis 500.
Fuel, fuel, and more (or less) fuel. There's been a recurring theme so far today.
Five years ago NASCAR champion Kurt Busch attempted to run 'the double', competing in the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race later in the same day.

There's no drivers pulling double duty this year, and good job too; we're still under red flag conditions.
 
 
With Rossi taking the lead seconds before the incident, he's also helped by the red flag. We're set for a thrilling finish.
Prior to the stoppage, the yellow flag was good news for Pagenaud, with it giving him the opportunity to save fuel and setup a showdown to the finish with Rossi.
The race has been halted to clear up the incident at turn three.
Replays show Bourdais closing the door on Rahal, spinning both out.
Graham Rahal is fuming after being taken out in the crash. He gestures to the crowd to show he's okay.
