Josef Newgarden joins the fray up front. Carpenter in third, and Newarden in fourth are much more comfortable on fuel.
Lap 178 - Rossi has a look around the outside at turn one, but Pagenaud keeps the lead.
Pagenaud is alone out in front, but Rossi is charging towards him. Rossi is in a much more comfortable position fuel-wise. Pagenaud is still saving fuel, Rossi is not.
Lap 171, Newgarden pits, and emerges behind Simon Pagenaud. Rossi also gets by.
Rossi's in, too, and thankfully there was no issue this time.
Behind the top-two, the order is Ed Carpenter in third, Alexander Rossi fourth, Conor Daly, Sebastien Bourdais, Graham Rahal, Charlie Kimball, Santino Ferrucci, and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
40 to go, Penske team mates Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud are formation flying out in front. Pagenaud was advised to not challenge his team mate, sit in his tow, and continue to save fuel.
Rossi finally gets by Servia, and makes his feelings known as he gets by.
"What's he doing?" Rossi is livid with Oriol Servia who, despite being a lap down, is making the Andretti Autosport driver's life hell right now.
Rossi meanwhile is struggling with lapped traffic and is stuck in sixth.
Pagenaud is still watching his fuel numbers, but is keeping Newgarden honest at the front.
The first true pass for the lead as Josef Newgarden gets by Pagenaud on lap 151
Rossi is forced onto the grass while fighting Conor Daly on the back straight. Amazingly he keeps the car pointing in the right way!
GREEN FLAG! Lap 149 there's a five-car gaggle for the lead but everyone holds station.
Last time someone led 100 laps was 2010, when Dario Franchitti went on to win the race for a second time. Can Pagenaud repeat the feat?
Pagenaud meanwhile is deffinitely winning with the timing of the caution. The Frenchman has dominated the race so far, leading almost 100 laps, but has been worse on fuel than his rivals.
Dixon isn't the only driver dealt a bad hand by the caution. The Kiwi, his team mate Felix Rosenqvist, and Santino Ferrucci will all loose track position by pitting under caution.
Dixon pits under caution and Simon Pagenaud once again assumes the race lead.
Dixon leads under caution. The five-time series champ is running much longer stints than anyone else.
The fuel hose holds up Rossi once again. A 23 second stop, along with the yellow flag may well have ruined his race.
It's looking like Castroneves is playing the team game holding up Rossi.
With a clear track ahead and a fuel advantage, this is a critical time for Alexander Rossi as he looks to claim his second Indy 500 win.
Simon Pagenaud surrenders the lead once again as he stops on lap 129.
"You've got a seven lap advantage on pit stop window" - Alexander Rossi is comfortably ahead of Ed Carpenter in third.
Despite fears that the weather might play a role today, the forecasts are currently clear. Should the rain appear, with the race now well over halfway, the result would be declared official should the race need to be stopped early.
Rossi's challenge for the race lead appears to have cooled. The gap between the pair is currently half a second.
It's head-to head for the lead now between Pagenaud and Rossi.
