Stoner won't run revised Ducati for now

Casey Stoner has decided not to make use of the revised GP7 bike settings that his Ducati Marlboro team are introducing in Italy this weekend to help his teammate Loris Capirossi

Ducati have modified the Ducati's power delivery to offer improved rideability, in the hope that it will help Capirossi find the front-running form that has eluded him so far this season.

Stoner has been offered the settings as well, but told reporters at Mugello on Thursday that he was going to stick to what he has used up until now.

"That option is available to me, but at the moment we seem to be doing very well with the set-up we have," said the Australian, who leads this year's MotoGP championship standings.

"I think it is better to continue with this system for now. If we see there is a big improvement or a big step then maybe we can test, but at the moment I am going to concentrate on the direction we are going. It seems to be performing well at the moment."

Stoner is favourite for victory at the Italian Grand Prix, thanks to the straightline speed advantage his Ducati bike has, but he is taking nothing for granted.

"I think the Italian riders are going to be very, very fast here as they are every year," he explained. "It is going to be very difficult.

"There is no more motivation for me at this circuit. I need another good result and I think it is possible to do that at this circuit. I am still aiming to go out there and do my best.

"There is always the possibility for the win but we will go for whatever is possible to arrive at."
