MotoGP Phillip Island: Ankle break in FP2 set to sideline Crutchlow

Cal Crutchlow is set to miss this weekend's Phillip Island MotoGP race after breaking his ankle in a heavy crash in second practice on Friday

The LCR Honda rider had been fastest midway through the afternoon's second practice session, but his day was brought to an abrupt end when he crashed heavily at the Australian circuit's fast first corner.

He was transferred directly to the infield medical centre by ambulance, before being sent to hospital in Melbourne.

Dorna has since confirmed that Crutchlow suffered a "bimalleolar and anterior tibia part right ankle fracture" that is expected to rule him out of taking any further part in the weekend.

Crutchlow is expected to undergo surgery when he arrives in Melbourne.
