Lorenzo tests first generation GP2 car at Valencia

The Yamaha rider, world champion in 2010, had a full day of running in a first generation GP2 car, which was raced between 2005-2007 in the Formula 1 support series.

"This is a unique experience," said Lorenzo. "It's very different to what I'm used to, and to be honest it's an impressive sensation.

"Being so close to the ground, it seems like you are going much faster so it's exhilarating. You discover new sensations.

"Considering it was the first time I can feel fairly satisfied because I began to feel the limits of the car."

Lorenzo was offered the test by Addax team boss Alejandro Agag, who is a close friend of his manager. Agag admitted that he would love to see the Spaniard make the switch to car racing one day, but Lorenzo played down the chances of that happening.

"This has simply been an opportunity that Alejandro offered us because of our relationship," he added. "My passion has been MotoGP since the age of three so I expect to be a part of it for many more years. When I retire we will see."

Ex-GP2 racer Javier Villa was on hand to help set up the car and work with Lorenzo. Addax did not reveal any details of the bike star's laptimes, but Agag said he was impressed with what he saw.

"We aren't going to discuss times but I will say we are very surprised by his natural talent," said Agag. "He has just driven one of these cars for the first time and has set times that match drivers who have been around for a long time.

"Very few people could get behind the wheel of a machine that is the last step before Formula 1 and do what Jorge did today."
