Lorenzo: Simoncelli deserves a ban

Assen polesitter Simoncelli lost control and fell on the opening lap of today's race, sliding into Lorenzo's Yamaha and knocking the world champion down as well.

Both managed to get back on their battered bikes, with Lorenzo recovering to sixth and Simoncelli to 10th.

A furious Lorenzo - who was strongly critical of Simoncelli's riding earlier in the season - hit out at the Gresini Honda rider again after the incident.

"You don't need to watch the replay. I saw it live while on the bike," Lorenzo told Spanish television. "And well, he didn't try to make me fall but it seems he doesn't think too much. I thought he had learned from all the controversies he has created in the past but obviously he didn't.

"He is still as reckless as always and the good thing is that I didn't get injured, that I'm fine and that I managed to score a few points. But I honestly think that if he doesn't change his attitude he will injure more riders in the future.

"If I were in the safety commission I'd take away his licence for several races, but I'm just a rider and I don't have a lot of power to make those decisions."

Simoncelli was summoned to meet MotoGP race direction at Catalunya after his clash with Dani Pedrosa at Le Mans left the works Honda rider with a broken collarbone that ultimately sidelined him for three races. No further action was taken against Simoncelli after the conversation with the officials, although he did receive a ride-through penalty during the French event.
