Lorenzo promises better race pace

Jorge Lorenzo believes he will be in better shape in tomorrow's San Marino Grand Prix than he was in qualifying, where he was pushed back to a disappointing third place on the grid

The Spaniard's title rival and Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi grabbed pole position with his final lap, while Lorenzo - who briefly held provisional pole in the final minutes - was demoted to third as Honda's Dani Pedrosa also improved.

Lorenzo said he had been unable to get any more speed out of Bridgestone's softer compound tyre, but thinks he will be competitive on harder rubber in the race - and vowed to do his utmost to get to the front.

"Unfortunately we couldn't be faster with the soft tyre, but anyway I think we have good pace for the race," he said. "We are going to push."

High temperatures throughout the Misano weekend have made conditions tough for all the riders, and Lorenzo expects the race to be a test of endurance for everyone.

"[It will be] very hard, a lot of pain, for sure," he said.

"It's going to be a very long race and the weather is so hot. Tomorrow physical condition will be very important."
