Lorenzo concerned over power deficit

The new Spanish track features one of the longest straights on the calendar, and the championship leader reckons Yamaha's relative lack of power is putting him at a substantial disadvantage.

Lorenzo was only 15th in the speed trap figures in qualifying, 8km/h down on Dani Pedrosa's Honda, which was fastest on the straight. All four Yamahas were outside the top 10 in the straightline speed standings.

"The problem is that we lost a lot on the straights and on acceleration," said Lorenzo, who still beat Pedrosa to second. "We don't have the same power as Ducati and Honda, so this is the worst point we have now."

He said his only chance in tomorrow's race is to be completely mistake-free.

"We can't change the bike," Lorenzo said. "So with this bike we must be perfect and ride perfectly to have some chance of victory or a podium tomorrow."

While Lorenzo feels he does not have an ideal package for the Motorland Aragon circuit, he is satisfied with his own performance so far this weekend.

"I'm riding well - in every practice improving my riding style and understanding the track more every lap. It's not so easy to understand," he said.
