Hopkins won't miss first race

John Hopkins is confident that the injuries he sustained in testing at Qatar on Thursday will not be serious enough to force him to miss the season opener at the track on March 10

Hopkins has flown back to England to see a specialist, but his Suzuki team suspect that he has fractures in his hand and foot.

While the American could miss next week's final test at Jerez, he is sure that he will be back in Qatar for the opening race of the season in three weeks' time.

"I'm sure we'll be in a good position when we come back here in about three weeks and I'll certainly be at the first race," said Hopkins.

"I'm feeling pretty beat up at the moment - a 120mph high-side does that to you," he added. "I've got bruises on all four limbs and a couple of broken bones."

The team remained upbeat after the crash, as they were pleased with their performance over the three days.

Hopkins said: "I'm happy with how the test went though, and we got through everything we needed to before the crash. It was a sad way to end the test because we had made good progress here."

Team manager Paul Denning said: "Overall this has been a really positive test for the whole team with the exception of what happened to John.

"We are very pleased to be as close to the pace as we are and there is still a bit more to find to run right at the front. We are looking more and more ready to take that next step every time we go out on track."
