Hayden to test new engine settings
World champion Nicky Hayden will test several engine modes on his Honda V4 tomorrow, in a bid to improve acceleration out of the corners
The American struggled at the first event of the year in Qatar, and he believes that the electrics on the engine were partly to blame.
"The problem is at the moment is that there is too much traction control on the exit of the corners," he said, "and that's ultimately hurting our top speed down the straights."
Honda HRC managing director Satoru Horiike has said that Hayden's problems have surprised him, but he added that the team are doing all they can to help the world champion.
"We can change the engine modes to help acceleration," Hayden added. "The one thing we do have is strength within the team and I know they are working hard to progress."
The day of testing after the opening round of the year at the Qatar track was curtailed by high-speed winds, so Honda will use tomorrow's practice to test new parts.
Hayden also says that when the Ducati of Loris Capirossi sped past him during the first lap of the last race in Qatar, "it was sickening".
Speaking today in preparation for this weekend's Spanish MotoGP, he also said that during the post race de-brief after Qatar he told the team that they need to improve in all areas.
"I told them how it was when racing against all the other Hondas. I might have had a little advantage is some areas, but it wasn't strong."
