Hayden quickest as Motegi test ends

Nicky Hayden was fastest on a quiet final day of testing at Motegi

The world champion and Monday pacesetter Chris Vermeulen were the only two race riders present, and Honda and Suzuki the only manufacturers who choose to stay on for a second day.

"We almost had Motegi to ourselves - there weren't a lot of guys going around out there," said Hayden.

"We did a lot more work today, testing the new fairing and some clutch parts. It was not so much parts we might be using this year but more likely some items for next season.

"It went pretty well and we were able to start stringing the 1:47 laps together and I got down a lot deeper into the 47s than I was able to over the race weekend."

Hayden also made some progress with tyre development, but is unsure whether he will use the improvements in the next race in Australia.

"I found a front tyre that was an improvement for me," he said. "With the tyre rule it's always going to be a bit of a gamble deciding if you want to put something new into your allocation though, especially at Phillip Island because you've got be ready for everything with the changeable weather there."

Suzuki test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi was second fastest, 0.8 seconds behind Hayden and a tenth ahead of race rider Vermeulen.

Tuesday's testing times:

Pos Rider Bike Time
 1. Nicky Hayden Honda (M) 1:47.277
 2. Kousuke Akiyoshi Suzuki (B) 1:48.040
 3. Chris Vermeulen Suzuki (B) 1:48.141
 4. Tadayuki Okada Honda (M) 1:49.062
 5. Nobuatsu Aoki Suzuki (B) 1:50.211
