Ducati expects stronger Stoner

The 2007 world champion is expected to return to action in the next race in Portugal after having decided to skip the last three rounds of the championship as he continues to recover from his illness.

Although some figures have expressed doubts about Stoner's form in his return, Suppo is sure the Australian will be the same when he rides again.

"We haven't been to Australia (to visit Stoner), but I have no doubt that he will be back as strong as ever if not more," Suppo told Italia1.

"I know him very well: he didn't feel physically well for real, and he needed this break.

"He's now having his break, it's working, and he's feeling better every day. I know we are criticized for not having gone to Australia, but I know Casey very well and he's like your closest friends: you may not hear from them for a long time, but the day you meet them again nothing has changed."

Suppo also played down the significance of rumours suggesting Honda was interested in hiring Stoner in the future.

"This is the first time I hear that, but like we were interested in riders like Jorge and Dani, it's clear that other teams may be and will be interested in Casey since contract renewal time comes up next year. It's normal for these four guys from a different league."

And he denied there had been talks between Ducati and Valentino Rossi over a ride for next year.

"No, for 2010 we have two riders under contract and Valentino has a contract with Yamaha, so those rumours are not true.
