De Puniet still satisfied despite slump
Randy de Puniet says he was satisfied with his performance in the British Grand Prix even though he slipped from a potential podium position to sixth in the closing laps
Having taken a brilliant second on the grid - only losing pole to a last-gasp effort from Jorge Lorenzo, LCR Honda rider de Puniet fought mightily with works Honda man Andrea Dovizioso and then Ducati's Nicky Hayden in the race, but eventually dropped back.
De Puniet said fading tyres were to blame for his slump.
"At four laps to go the front started to move too much because we raced on front soft tyre - which was the right choice - but probably today's ground temperature was a bit higher compared to the rest of the weekend," de Puniet explained.
He still felt his Silverstone form marked a significant breakthrough for LCR.
"It was a good race and I had fun but, like in Mugello, I finished behind the leading group. It's a pity but I feel satisfied anyway," de Puniet said.
"I made a very good start from the front row and I could rely on my machine as we lapped consistently fast for the whole weekend.
"The guys gave me an incredible machine here and we can be pleased about this result as we battled for the podium. In my opinion we moved a step forward in this weekend and will do our best to keep the sixth position in the world classification."
