MotoGP Silverstone: Tech3 riders get chance to try Yamaha fairing

Tech3 Yamaha MotoGP riders Johann Zarco and Jonas Folger will have the chance to try the first aerodynamic fairing design created for the factory team this weekend at Silverstone

Yamaha's satellite team has starred on occasions so far this year with its all-rookie line-up, who sit sixth (Zarco) and eighth (Folger) in the riders' standings.

While Silverstone is unlikely to be a track where a new fairing can make a huge difference, both riders have the option to try the initial design used by factory riders Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi earlier this season.

"We are going to use it [this weekend], but I don't know when," said Zarco.

"We will start with the bike we know, let's see the feeling, because I think even without this new fairing I can feel good and be fast.

"It can give more stability to the bike, but it can be more difficult to lean or change direction.

"That's why we must see where I feel good or where I am struggling tomorrow and see if we try or not this new fairing.

"I still feel that I am not yet using 100% of the bike, and I know if I use the full potential I will be close to the podium anyway and that is the main target at the moment."

Folger said the feedback from the factory Yamaha team suggested the new fairing would not be a guaranteed improvement.

"I don't know if this is the right track, but we are going to try it and see if I can feel any difference," he said.

"Normally what they say is we are going to lose some handling, so the agility of the bike is not so good, but it depends on the rider.

"It's all about confidence. Normally if you are more confident you do a better laptime.

"If it's the opposite and you feel not comfortable but you go faster, it doesn't matter because you are faster.

"Maybe it's not the perfect thing to use here, but we have to try it.

"We know it's helping for many tracks, and I think even the factory is [undecided] if they are going to use it because every track is different.

"We have the first evolution, which is on the side of the bikes, and it makes the fairing a little bit bigger.

"But it doesn't mean it's better just because it's new."
