125cc: Espargaro takes provisional pole
Spanish rider Pol Espargaro conquered some atrocious conditions at Mugello on Friday to take provisional pole position for the 125cc Italian Grand Prix
The 16-year-old Belson Derbi rider snatched the top spot in the final minutes of the session, bumping championship leader and hitherto pace-setter Mike de Meglio.
British sensation Scott Redding continued to impress as he demoted di Meglio's Derbi to third with a strong final flying lap on his Aprilia.
On home ground, Raffaele de Rosa took potentially his best starting spot of the season with fourth for KTM, ahead of the Cafe Latte Aprilia of Sandro Cortese.
Bradley Smith saved his session in the dying moments as he moved his Polaris Aprilia up to sixth, with reigning champion Gabor Talmacsi doing something similar to go one position lower.
Joan Olive, twice a podium finisher so far this year, was eighth ahead of Andrea Iannone.
Danny Webb made it three Britons in the top ten, but with five minutes to go, the 15-year-old was on the front row, such was the change in the order at the end of the session.
