125cc: Pasini takes dominant pole
Mattia Pasini has taken pole position for the 125cc event at Motegi this weekend with a dominant performance in qualifying
Pasini was on provisional pole after yesterday's first qualifying session, and maintained pole after lowering the mark three times during the session, setting the ultimate pole position as the session ended with a time of 1:57.301.
His first effort today was faster than second-fastest Tomoyoshi Koyama could do, Koyama's best nearly six tenths slower than Pasini's pole. Championship leader Gabor Talmacsi was third fastest and was the only other rider within a second of Pasini.
Talmacsi's closest championship rival will start next to him on the grid, Hector Faubel fourth fastest, with young Englishman Bradley Smith completing the top five.
Simone Corsi, Joan Olive, Lukas Pesek, Raffaele De Rosa and Sandro Cortese round the top ten on the grid.
