125cc: Pasini claims dominant pole
Mattia Pasini dominated the second qualifying session for the 125cc British Grand Prix at Donington Park
With the track completely dry for today's session, Friday's provisional grid times were immediately beaten.
Simone Corsi and Randy Krummenacher swapped the top spot initially, before Pasini took control of the session.
The Italian - who has suffered abysmal luck so far this year and has yet to take his first win of 2007 despite dominating several races - proceeded to repeatedly improve on his provisional pole time.
Whenever the opposition closed in, Pasini immediately responded with an even quicker time, and his eventual 1:37.399 lap ultimately put him on pole by 0.5 seconds over Corsi.
Tomoyoshi Koyama and championship leader Gabor Talmacsi complete the front row, followed by Sergio Gadea and Hector Faubel.
British rider Bradley Smith briefly held a provisional second on the grid for his home race, but then suffered a violent high-side on his final run. He was able to limp away from the scene of the accident, and has qualified ninth.
