125cc: Pesek on provisional pole

Lukas Pesek rebounded from his Mugello error to take provisional pole position for the Catalunya round of the 125cc series

The Czech rider - who had dropped from first to third in the standings after crashing at the final corner of the race a week ago - knocked Mattia Pasini off pole by 0.051 seconds a third of the way through the session.

Pasini then went off on his final lap while trying to respond, but retained second ahead of Raffaele de Rosa, who leapt up the order in the closing moments.

Early pacesetter Gabor Talmacsi took fourth, ahead of championship leader and highest-placed Spaniard Hector Faubel, Sergio Gadea and Bradley Smith.

Sandro Cortese also made a late error, falling at the first corner in the middle of a pack of bikes and causing several to take evasive action through the gravel, but the German still qualified eighth.

Spanish riders Nicolas Terol and Pablo Nieto completed the top ten.
