125cc: Pasini takes provisional pole
Mattia Pasini emerged on top of a three-way battle for provisional pole for the 125cc race in Turkey
The Italian held the position early in the session before championship leader Gabor Talmacsi went three-tenths faster after 10 minutes, and then found another six-tenths of a second just as his previous time was pipped by Simone Corsi.
Pasini responded with a 2:06.715 lap to knock Talmacsi off the top spot by just 0.001 seconds, but both were upstaged by Corsi's 2:06.585 lap a few minutes later.
In the final shoot-out at the end of the half-hour session, Pasini produced a 2:05.739 lap to claim an ultimately comfortable pole, 0.2 seconds clear of Talmacsi's final effort.
A last minute improvement by Tomoyoshi Koyama saw the Japanese rider leap up to third, leaving Corsi in fourth place.
Practice pacesetter Bradley Smith could only manage 10th in qualifying.
