125cc: Talmascsi scores comfortable win
Gabor Talmacsi moved a little closer to the 125cc world title with a commanding win in the Malaysian 125cc Grand Prix at Sepang
Talmacsi took the lead on lap one and never looked back, opening up a gap of ten seconds before cruising home in the closing laps, to increase his margin over his rival Hector Faubel to 10 points with only the final round at Valencia remaining.
Behind Talmacsi there was a tremendous fight for second place. Mattia Pasini, Faubel, Simone Corsi, Joan Olive, Sandro Cortese and Tomoyoshi Koyama were in the fight throughout the race, with Pol Espargaro joining them in the closing laps.
For most of the race Faubel appeared to be struggling a little with his bike, which allowed Olive, Corsi and Pasini to take turns running second as Faubel diced with them but hung around fourth place.
But as the laps wound down Faubel showed he still had something left, taking back second place with four laps remaining. Olive took second back on the next lap as Koyama also passed Faubel.
With two laps remaining Koyama moved into second but Faubel still was holding on. On the final lap Faubel took second from Olive and held on to the chequered flag, with Sergio Gadea and Lukas Pesek close behind.
Sandro Cortese crashed with just a couple of corners to go, while Pol Espargaro, who led at the start before running wide at turn one and then caught the second-place pack in the closing laps, crashed out with four laps to go.
