125cc: 125cc qualifying postponed by rain

Estoril 125cc qualifying has been put back three hours due to another massive downpour at the Portuguese track

125cc: 125cc qualifying postponed by rain

Although there had been a little respite in the conditions this morning, the rain returned with a vengeance prior to the scheduled qualifying time.

The session was initially delayed by 25 minutes due to the level of standing water on the track, and with no sign of any improvement, the organisers decided to postpone proceedings.

Qualifying is now due to get underway at 4.05pm local time, with MotoGP currently intended to start on time at 1.55pm. However with the skies over Estoril still extremely dark, there must be question marks over whether the MotoGP session will run as planned.

If there are any further problems and qualifying cannot take place at all, the grid will be formed on combined practice times.

That would give Aspar Aprilia rider Bradley Smith pole, ahead of Cajasol Aprilia duo Danny Webb and Alberto Moncayo. The latter pair would be set for career-best starting positions in that instance. Smith topped first and third practice, while rookie Moncayo was quickest on Friday afternoon.

Points leader Marc Marquez will hope qualifying does take place as he is only ranked 11th in the practice order, six places behind main rival Nico Terol, but one ahead of fellow title contender Pol Espargaro.
