Moto2: Pasini wins on his debut

Mattia Pasini made the perfect start to his 250cc career by winning the Grand Prix of Qatar thanks to a bold move on the penultimate lap

The Italian Aprilia rider took advantage of the dicing between Spaniards Hector Barbera and Alex Debon and passed both his rivals' Aprilias in a single move, just as the two exchanged position twice.

"I don't know what to say, I'm so happy for myself, the team, and Aprilia," Pasini told Italia1 television.

"At the beginning I had some problems on full tanks, but I knew the bike was fine to manage worn tyres. So I was calm at the beginning, and then I started going at my pace. I caught up with everyone, I overtook them, and I had a perfect last lap. I don't know what more to ask for!"

Barbera led from mid-way through the race, when he overtook Aprilia's Alvaro Bautista, who held the lead from the second lap. After losing the lead Bautista faded and finished the race in sixth place.

Debon, who before Pasini's move looked set for victory, also lost the last place on the podium as he was passed by KTM's Mika Kallio for third.

Honda's Yuki Takahashi finished fifth, 13 seconds behind the winner. Aprilia's Karel Abraham ended up seventh, followed by Gilera's Roberto Locatelli and the Aprilias of Aleix Espargaro and Hector Faubel rounding up the top ten.

The first lap was led by Thomas Luthi, who however was punished with a ride-through penalty after jumping the start from seventh on the grid.
