Moto2: Lorenzo slams Bautista's move

Jorge Lorenzo was furious with Alvaro Bautista after their last lap collision in the Mugello 250cc race

The runaway championship leader did not manage to set a lap in dry conditions in qualifying and had to start 20th, but he made up 11 places at the start and was in the lead with a lap to go.

But Alex de Angelis passed him into the first corner, and then Bautista dived inside at Materassi and made contact with Lorenzo's Aprilia, sending him into the gravel.

He rejoined to finish eighth, while Bautista passed de Angelis to secure his first 250cc victory.

"I regret that the incident happened with a Spanish rider, who is going really fast on his debut this season, but that isn't new to this kind of move," said Lorenzo.

"Everyone is telling me I've done a magnificent race, but at these moments praise doesn't fulfil me enough as I'm really angry.

"I hope I can channel my anger towards a positive aim - winning next weekend in Montmelo in front of all my fans.

"I think the podium was possible and I leave Mugello feeling that I've lost but not within an entirely fair game."

In the post-race press conference, Bautista described the incident as "a normal pass on the last lap."

Lorenzo said he had to take some consolation from how well he had recovered from his qualifying error.

"We've lost a bit of advantage in the overall championship standing, but after the kind of race we've done, I have to be proud of my work as well as my team's," said Lorenzo.
