Magazine: Why Williams' revival in F1 is real

Will Williams continue its Formula 1 recovery? How high up the grid can it climb? What is the new owner planning?

Autosport Magazine

Autosport is the UK's must-read motorsport magazine! It is revered by fans and industry personnel alike as the ultimate source of motorsport news and analysis.

These are some of the questions we attempt to answer in this week's Autosport magazine, out today (28 January).

It's now nearly nine years since Pastor Maldonado scored Williams's 114th world championship Formula 1 race victory. And, aside from that remarkable day in Spain, the team hasn't been a regular frontrunner for over a decade and a half.

But the huge successes Williams scored in the 1980s and 1990s - which means it still has more constructors' titles than any team apart from Ferrari - and the way Frank Williams went about his business, means there is still a lot of affection for the Grove-based squad.

The Williams family has finally handed over the reins and, as Alex Kalinauckas shows after talking to the key players, new owner Dorilton Capital is putting investment and planning in place for a long-term recovery.

As part of our Williams special, we also chart the team's peaks and troughs since 1978 and select the top five F1 cars the team has produced.

Kevin Magnussen has left F1 to pursue a career and he talks to Luke Smith about his enthusiasm for sportscar racing ahead of this weekend's Daytona 24 Hours, while Gary Watkins is your guide on what to look out for during the event.

Oliver Gavin scored many successes - at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans - during his time at Corvette Racing. He picks out the highs and lows from nearly two decades at one of GT racing's big teams.

The Monte Carlo Rally kicked off the World Rally Championship last weekend and we report on how Toyota's Sebastien Ogier scored a record-breaking eighth victory on the classic event.

We also assess how UK club racing fared during a tumultuous 2020, defend Ferrari's team orders during the 2010 German Grand Prix and have some fun choosing the great motorsport events we'd like to travel back to.
