IRL bosses quell reunification talk
The IRL IndyCar Series hierarchy have tried to quell speculation about the possibility of an imminent IRL-Champ Car reunification
Recent reports that IRL founder Tony George had socialised with Champ Car leader Kevin Kalkhoven prompted suggestions that the two sides might soon call a truce in the 10-year-old battle for control of America single-seater racing. But reporters invited to a dinner with Vision Racing officials on Saturday night were asked not to question George about the topic, and IRL president Brian Barnhart played down the significance of George and Kalkhoven's liasons.
"I don't think there's much to comment on," Barnhart said. "There have been a couple of social visits between Tony and Kevin Kalkhoven. They've been exactly that. There are no negotiations, no talks going forward.
"I think it's great for them to get to know each other better and understand their philosophies and directions a little bit. But there currently are no plans for negotiations or reunification."
Vision officials cancelled the media dinner less than three hours before it was scheduled to begin, saying too many reporters had dropped out.
