Indy 500 entry list revealed
Indianapolis 500 organisers look like they have reached their target of a full grid for this year's race
The entry deadline for the prestigious event closed earlier this month, and with the IRL having 19 regular competitors this season there were again fears that there would not be 33 cars on the grid at Indy this season.
However, organisers have always been bullish about their chances of a full grid this year and have named a 38-car grid. This does include 'spare' entries for teams such as Penske Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing, who are not expected to utilise them.
The list includes six former winner's of the event, the largest number for four years - Dan Wheldon, Buddy Rice, Helio Castroneves, Eddie Cheever Jr, Buddy Lazier and Al Unser Jr.
Extra entries that just made the deadline included ones for Sam Schmidt Motorsport, Hemelgarn Racing and C and S Motorsport.
Infiniti Pro Series regular Arie Luyendyk Jr, son of former winner Arie Lunendyk, has also filed an entry on behalf of his own team.
