Matsuura targets home victory
Japanese driver Kosuke Matsuura believes he will be in with a chance of winning his home race at Motegi this weekend
Matsuura has never finished on the podium in his two seasons of IRL IndyCar competition but has made a strong start to the season. He currently lies fifth in the championship standings after a seventh and sixth in the opening two races.
Now the Super Aguri Fernandez driver believes he will be able to build on those results and challenge for victory on home soil at this weekend's race.
"After our strong start to the season, I am more excited than ever for the Indy Japan 300," Matsuura said. "This is such an important race for me. This is my home race and to win here is one of my goals. I have a lot of confidence for this weekend.
"The team has been working very hard and I know we will be strong. I have learned a lot these past two years, and feel I am ready to challenge for race wins.
"We know that we are right there and that we are competitive. I will have a lot of family, friends, sponsors and fans that will be at the track. I will do my best on Saturday."
His best result at the circuit was in 2004, when he finished eighth.
