Carpenter to return to IndyCar

Ed Carpenter will rejoin the IndyCar Series for the remaining American oval events in a second Panther Racing entry run in collaboration with Vision Racing

Carpenter was sidelined when former series boss Tony George's Vision team was unable to secure enough funding to continue full-time this season, and his only start of 2010 so far came when Vision and Panther teamed up for the Indianapolis 500. That arrangement will now resume for Chicagoland, Kentucky and Homestead.

"We knew from the beginning that we wanted to run Ed for more than just the Indianapolis 500," said Panther boss John Barnes. "I've got to thank [sponsor] Fuzzy's Vodka and Tony George for making this happen; they've put in a lot of hard work since we finished at Indianapolis to make this deal happen and we know that Ed is going to be able to step right back in the #20 car and be a major factor in all three of these events."

Carpenter qualified eighth at Indianapolis with Vision/Panther - his best start in the event. He will again line-up alongside Dan Wheldon when he returns for the forthcoming oval events.

"We had such a great month of May that I am excited to finish what we started," said Carpenter. "It has been a long season watching IndyCar action from the sidelines, so I am eager to get back into the action."

The addition of Carpenter means there will be a 29-car field for the Chicagoland race at the end of August.
