Panoz duo take Mosport win
Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen won the Grand Prix of Mosport, after Panoz team-mate David Brabham was hit with a 20-second stop-go penalty
Brabham, who set the fastest time, took the chequered flag but was later penalised when a crewman touched the car during re-fuelling.
It was the first time a front-engined sports car has won at Mosport and the first time one has won anywhere since Phil Hill won Le Mans in 1962.
Pole-sitter Jan Magnussen lead during the early stages of the race.
'It was tough to drive without a car in front for reference,' he said.
'It was sprinkling rain and there were some slick spots, but the Michelin Pilots held great.'
Co-driver O'Connell added, 'The Roadster performed fantastically. I lost my left mirror and the right one was angled down toward the end so I couldn't defend. But everything else just came together and we were able to take advantage of it.'
Brabham was running third when he was forced off the course on lap 101, but was able to recover.
The car was sent back out during a short pit inspection, during which time it incurred the stop-go penalty.
Team boss Don Panoz, and founder of ALMS, said, 'We qualified first and second and we finished first and second. I couldn't ask for more.
'Now we're looking forward to gaining more championship points at Sears Point next month.'
