Lehto & Soper on pole at Sears Point
JJ Lehto and Steve Soper will start from pole at Sears Point as BMW return to the American Le Mans Series
The team pulled out of the last race at Mosport Park because of fears over safety at the track but will start from the front row alongside the rapid Rafanelli R&S. The latter could have clinched pole but for a gearbox problem towards the end of the session.
'I am very pleased,' said Lehto. 'You've obviously got a great car when it can wins Le Mans and then claim pole on a completely different track.'
The two Panoz LMP Spyders and the second BMW of Jo Winkelhock and Bill Auberlen are within a second of the polesitter.
